Jain Pilgrimages in Delhi
The epitome of peace and non-violence, Jain religion has a strong foundation in the capital city. This is why numerous Jain temples can be found across Delhi where the devotees visit to offer adulation. Amongst the most prominent Jain temples in Delhi is Digambar Jain Lal Mandir which is situated in Chandni Chowk. Also reckoned to be the oldest Jain temple in Delhi, the temple is dedicated to 23rd Jain Tirthankara, Parshvanath and is said to have been built in 1656. The temple premises also runs a hospital for birds, squirrels, and other small animals.
Apart from this, two other important Jain pilgrimage sites include Naya Mandir in Dharampura Town. This popular Jain temple in Delhi contains a large number of scripts including that of the Maha Purana of Acharya Jinasena. The Ahinsa Sthal in Mehrauli is another famous Jain site to visit in Delhi. Dedicated to the 24th Tirthankara, Mahavira, this site has a large deity of him installed that is thronged by a number of devotees. Other than these places of worship, there are about 165 Jain temples in and around Delhi, offering a Jain devotee a close by place each time to perform the pilgrimage.
