Veer Bhumi Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Delhi
If we look deep enough into what Delhi has to offer then it is easy to say that it has two sides to it. One side portrays the liveliness of the city which keeps on racing with the modern world while the other likes being the way it was from the past eras. Even though both the sides of the city are equally loved, travellers are often seen inclining towards the history and legends. One such tourist attraction that recalls the eminent personalities of the nation, is Raj Ghat which is a place that remembers leaders of India like Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, and Lal Bahadur Shastri. A little close to it is the memorial by the name Veer Bhumi which pays homage to the youngest Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. The Land of the Brave which is another name given to Veer Bhumi was founded in order to pay respect to the visionary leader, who even though never wanted to join politics but was lead into it and came out as a shining gem for the country. It was in the year 1980 that Rajiv Gandhi joined politics after the death of his brother, Sanjay Gandhi. By the year 1984, Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister after the assassination of his mother Indira Gandhi. The young Prime Minister was victorious in his role which he completed in 1989. It was in 1991 that the great leader was assassinated by a militant of the LTTE at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. Veer Bhumi is a simply crafted memorial which stands on the spot where Rajiv Gandhi’s last rites took place. The area is covered in verdant greenery glorified with a rock carved lotus and 46 replicas that portray the life of the leader. The lotuses are further encircled by rocks belonging to other international destinations.
