Sikkim does not have an airport, and thus have to depend on Bagdogra International Airport of West Bengal for air connectivity. This airport is situated some 123 kms from Sikkim’s capital city, Gangtok and can be reached by hiring a cab or boarding a bus plying regularly between the two destinations. Bagdogra Airport is a major stoppage for flights landing from places such as Kolkata, New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore and Guwahati. In fact, the airport is also well connected to the international airports of countries like Bhutan, Nepal and Thailand that connects Sikkm with Paro, Kathmandu, and Bangkok. Bagdogra Airport has also availed a helicopter service to Gangtok which take about two hours time to reach either side. This airport also serves Military purposes.
