About Trekking in September in India
September means reduction in rainfall in the Indian Himalayas, which in return leads to opening of many treks. So, it’s basically a win-win situation for the trekking enthusiasts. This last month of monsoon is also the best time to trek for photographers also. The clear views; the bluer than blue sky in the day time and star-lit in the night time; and the lush green surrounding make it ideal for those who enjoy photography along with adventure.
The best part about September is that trekking starts in all the Himalayan states in India – Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim. Due to heavy rains many Himalayan treks become inaccessible in these states in the country but in September, several if not all, treks open for adventurers.
In Ladakh, almost every major trek such as Lamayuru Alchi, Stok Kangri, Darcha Padum can be done in September. In Jammu & Kashmir, treks like Kashmir Great Lakes and Warwan Valley can be enjoyed. In Himachal, a whole new set of treks become accessible. Hampta Pass, Beas Kund, Buran Ghati, and Bhrigu Lake are some of the best treks to do in September in Himachal Pradesh.
In Uttarakhand, many treks add to the existing ones. Har Ki Dun, Valley of Flowers, Bali Pass, Gidara Bugyal, Kedartal, Gaumukh-Tapovan are the top treks to do in Uttarakhand in September. In Sikkim too, a number of treks gradually start to open. Goecha La and Sandakphu are the two must-do treks in Sikkim in this last monsoon month.
