Chhatarpur Temple Delhi
Being India’s second largest temple in Delhi, Chhatarpur Temple is dedicated to Goddess Katyayani. The temple house many small as well as large temples with magnificent statutes of different deities. Located amidst the beautiful surroundings of the historical Mehrauli area in South Delhi, the temple was established by Sant Shree Nagpal Baba in 1974. The temple is now a popular tourist attraction in the city and an important pilgrimage centre which is visited by a large number of devotees throughout the year. The exquisite architecture of the Chhatarpur Temple is marked by a fabulous use of marble and intricately-carved jaali design. Also,the temple is even known among the heritage sites of South Delhi. Visiting the temple, one could witness the religious fervour.
SPACIOUS STRUCTURE
Entering the temple premise, outside the main hall there is the shrine of Goddess Katyayani. Also, there is a room or the living area for the nine goddesses where there are two divine paintings of Mother Goddess. Proceeding further in the temple campus there lies a baithak (a meeting area) and next to it there is a queen-size bedroom of the goddess that features a silver bed, dressing table, ornaments, cosmetics, a sword and other things. Also, the courtyard of the Chhatarpur Temple has a holy peepal tree (sacred fig) where people tie threads for wish fulfilment (religious faith). Adjacent to the temple complex, there is a huge basement room where devotees and pilgrims are fed delicious meals.
