Travel Uttarakhand by Train

Uttarakhand is yet to be connected well by railways as being a hilly state it lacks railway stations in any of the destination above 1500 m. One can only find railway stations in the foothills, and thus, cannot be yet called a well-connected destination by train. Uttarakhand railways department so far has 16 big and small railway stations which connect the state with major cities in India like Lucknow, Delhi, Kolkata, and Jaisalmer.

Dehradun, Haridwar, Kathgodam, Rudrapur, Tanakpur are a few railway stations that contribute in making travelling easy to Uttarakhand from other parts of the country. One can find from passenger trains to Chair car, comprising of A.C tiers and also non-ac tiers. There also runs Shatabdi between Kathgodam and Delhi, which is obviously the fastest train. Rail connectivity in Dehradun and Haridwar is also quite good, the two cities connect well with major cities in the country, even with the cities of South India.
