Sikh Pilgrimages in Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand, nestled in the foothills of the majestic Himalayan Range is also considered as the abode of Gods and Goddesses. The state attracts a large number of Sikh pilgrims who visit this abode of Gods and Goddesses. Hemkund Sahib, located in Chamoli District is one of the most popular Sikh Pilgrimage centers of India. Not only Sikh but Hindu devotees also flock to this area in large numbers. It is situated at an altitude of 4329 m. It is the place where Guru Gobind Singhji, one of the prominent Sikh Gurus is believed to have meditated at the banks of Hemkund Lake and achieved divine liberation.
Ram Rai Gurudwara, located in Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand, attracts a large number of Sikh Pilgrims. Also referred to as the Ram Rai Durbar, people love to visit the famous Darbar Sahib and the Nishan Sahib. They like to enjoy the tasty Prasad at the langar.
Nanakmatta Sahib is another famous Sikh pilgrimage places in Uttarakhand, close to Sitarganj. This Gurudwara is associated with Guru Gobind Singh Ji, first Sikh Guru. It is the place where Guru taught meditation to the yogis.
There are several other Sikh pilgrimage sites in Uttrakhand like Gurudwara Shri Reetha Sahib, Shri Thada Sahib, Bageshwar, Shri Amardasji Sahib and Shri Nanak Wada Sahib in Haridwar. A large number of Gurudwaras can be found in Udham Singh Nagar and few in places like Bageshwar where devotees visit throughout the year.
