And one such museum is Ghalib Museum and Library. Dedicated to the legendary Urdu and Persian poet, Mirza Ghalib, the museum delineates the rich tradition of poetry that prevails from the ancient eras. Established in the year 1969, this museum is located on the third floor of Ghalib Academy in the fort complex of Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin in West Nizamuddin. Just to let you know, the museum is touted as a prominent place to visit in Delhi for all the admirers of late Mirza Ghalib as it takes you back to the time when the art of ‘Sher and Shayaris’ were much in tradition. Amidst the poetic environ at Ghalib Museum and Library, the tourists get to see various exhibits including the photographs of Ghalib’s residences, his attires, and food habits. The museum also houses various coins, seals, and postage stamps that trace their history from the period of Mughal era.
Ghalib Academy proffers an amazing atmosphere for all the budding writer and poets of modern times to get some inspiration from the finest works of late Mirza Ghalib. For that, a number of specimens of handwriting are well-preserved in the museum. In total, the Ghalib Academy comprises four sections; an auditorium, museum, library, an art gallery, and a calligraphy training centre. In these sections, you can expect to see various arts and artefacts related to Ghalib Mirza; photographs, statue, books and significant documents making Ghalib Museum and Library a must-see tourist attraction in Delhi for art lovers. The library includes a rare assortment of poems of various eminent poets including the great Mirza Ghalib that is one of the prime attractions of the place. Whereas, the auditorium is known for hosting regular gatherings of Urdu poets; sometimes in the traditional attires of sherwani, topis, and achkans. On display, the museum also has a darbar (court) of the last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar which is embellished with canopies, decorations, and fretwork. Another significant attraction of the museum is the paintings of various renowned artists like Satish Gujral, M.F. Hussain, and Anis Farooqi. Apart from this, the calligraphy works of Mirza Ghalib’s poetry are also kept on display in the museum.
