Sanskriti Kendra Terracotta & Metal Museum Delhi
Cherishing every bit of the hard work put into making something unique and exquisite like the local craft are the Sanskriti Museums in New Delhi. Giving a share of land to three museums namely the Museum of ‘Everyday Art’, Museum of Indian Terracotta and Textile Museum, the complex witnesses a great crowd who have a fondness of tribal art. The terracotta museum is settled within an artist village complex and was established in 1979 by O.P Jain. Being founded under the Sanskriti Foundation which is a non-profit culture and arts promotion organization, this museum celebrates the humongous amount of talent that the villages in India inherit. The exhibition basically puts on show terracotta sculptures and figurines which have been sourced from the tribal areas of India.
Sanskriti Kendra Terracotta & Metal Museum takes the initiative to bring forth the talented craftsmen who have contributed some exceptional artworks to the country. The museum throws light on the techniques and traditions that are extensively followed in the various tribal zones across India. Furthermore, there are terracotta crafts put on the display which symbolise the time from which the art has been practiced. If we race back in time, terracotta was first used in Prehistoric art leading its way to the time of Neolithic art. Chinese art is given the biggest credit for using the art of terracotta which with the coming of age also became a great part of fine architectural styles adopted from the 1860s.
