For all the admirers of Gandhi and Nehru clans, this place serves as the perfect knowledge centre to get a brief insight into the life one of the greatest leaders and an iron lady of India - late Indira Gandhi, daughter of the first Prime Minister of India - late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The memorial is a white bungalow spread over in a massive area, which also includes a well-maintained lawn comprises of plants, flowers, trees and bushes, that once was the residential house of late Indira Gandhi. However, later after the assassination of Indira Gandhi on 31st October 1984, this house got converted into a memorial in her memory. For years, this museum in Delhi is manifesting the simple lifestyle of late Indira Gandhi to the general public. The museum is entirely secured with a walled glass through which one can get a sight of Indira Gandhi’s dining area, living area, and selected rooms of the house. On display, there are numerous fascinating relics and artefacts related to Indira Gandhi, however, amongst those, a saree worn by him during assassination is the main attraction of the museum. Also, the memorial has a well-preserved crystal plaque which exhibits the brown blood spot of Indira Gandhi. Besides, the walls of the museum are also adorned with numerous photographs of private and public events of Nehru and Gandhi families.

From childhood days, her marriage ceremony and the time that she spent with her father in her office to the birth of her sons late Sanjay Gandhi and late Rajiv Gandhi to the moment when she swore as the first lady Prime Minister of India, these photographs are exhibited on a sequential pattern that tells the journey of her life and make Indira Gandhi Memorial one of the must-visit place to visit in Delhi. The photographs also showcase some other phases of her life which include her son’s marriage, the days she spent with her grandchildren, and the last days of her life in the office and various events. The pathway of the lawn where she last walked before getting gunned down by her two bodyguards is also secured with a glass frame and the spot where she fell unconscious after struck by the bullets has been erected as a memorial site to commemorate Indira Gandhi. Not just proffering an insight to the life of Indira Gandhi through its vast collection of artefacts and relics, the museum also houses personal belongings of her eldest son - Rajiv Gandhi, that include the almost burnt shoes and clothes worn by him during his assassination on 21st May 1991. A part of the wall also includes pictures that were taken by Rajiv Gandhi as he was very much passionate for the art of photography. Outside the museum, in the green lawns, one can listen to the speeches of Indira Gandhi through the hidden microphones, placed behind the bushes and shrubs, that she delivered as a Prime Minister of India.
