Abi Gamin Peak Uttarakhand
On the northern border of the Chamoli district lies Abi Gamin Peak, which is also popular by the name of Abi Gamin. Blessed with an astounding height of 7,355 m, Abi Gamin Peak is considered as the 10th tallest peak in Uttarakhand. Due to such amazing elevation, the peak is found to be covered in snow throughout. Along with the other adjoining peaks like Kamet peak that is connected to Abi Gamin peak by a 2 kms long saddle known as Meade’s Col, forms the center of the Himalayan range. The majestic views of these snowclad peaks of Garhwal Himalayas lure the tourists for a must visit here to behold the beauty of it. The watershed of the upper Alaknanda and Dhauli rivers flowing between the Manna and Niti Passes that mark the Indo-Tibetan meet, are some of the best tourist attractions in Uttarakhand, that make for an equally beautiful sight from the Abi Gamin Peak.
Apart from providing a romantic backdrop, Abi Gamin is a paradise for the visitors seeking for real adventure activities like trekking and climbing in Uttarakhand. Though the challenge is a bit difficult that has witnessed many failure attempts before; Abi Gamin Peak was first climbed by a small Anglo-Swiss Expedition team in the year 1950 who had approached it from the north side through Tibet. Later, with the growing passion for peak climbing in the Uttarakhand Himalayas, different routes have been explored like the Northwest ridge by Mana Pass, Southwest ridge via Meade’s Col and the Northwest ridge. Going for mountaineering while enjoying the general splendour of nature are among the best things to do in Uttarakhand. Similarly, the motorable roads of Manna and Niti Passes are excessively enchanting for the tourists with a keen interest in motorbiking. These snaky road lead to the last Indian Village, which is counted among the best places to see near to the beautiful Abi Gamin Peak.
