Changuch Peak Uttarakhand
Standing on the borderline of the Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand, Changuch peak is one of the dangerous and difficult peak of the Kumaon Himalayas. Blessed with an altitude of 6,322 m above the sea level, the peak lies above the Pindari Glacier, offering a ridge that leads to the majestic Nanda Kot. There is also a Traill’s pass situated on its massif which connects the Pindari valley to Goriganga valley.
Mountaineering is best experienced in the Changuch peak of the Uttarakhand Himalayas. It is a prominent peak in the Uttarakhand that has witnessed many failure attempts of peak climbing with few successful ascending, but the desire of the mountaineers to reach to the summit never died. Changuch peak invites many high level climbers every year from all parts of the world, and never fails to inspire them with its challenging routes. The first successful climb to the peak was made in the year 2009 by an Indo-British team led by Martin Moran. The different routes to approach the summit are through Lawan valley and Pindari Glacier. Out of both, the Lawan valley route is the easiest that had made the first successful climbing attempt possible. Whereas, the Pindari Glacier route had resulted into many failed expeditions until 17th June 2011 when an Indian mountaineering foundation sent an Indian expedition to the peak led by Dhruv Joshi. With the increasing success of the mountaineers, Changuch peak has now become the popular peak for adventure activities like trekking.
The trek to Changuch peak starts from Munsiyari which is the nearest place accessible by motorable roads. Studded with many beautiful sights of valleys and mighty views of the snow covered mountains, the trek to Changuch peak is fulfilling right from the beginning till it ends. Changuch peak being the king of difficult terrains, it becomes important for the climbers to take note of a week’s weather condition in order to be sure of their safety.
