Chaudhara Peak Uttarakhand
One of the proud mountain of the Kumaon Himalayas; Chaudhara peak is situated in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state in India. With an altitude of 6,510 m above the sea level, the peak stands upright to the north west of Panchachuli and south of Ralam pass. It is the part of the Himalayan massif between Ralam and Lassar valley, and it has got four corners due to which the peak is named as Chaudhara peak.
Trekking and mountaineering in the Uttarakhand Himalayas is quite famous due its mountains unsurpassable beauty and their challenging trails. Chaudhara peak lying at the southeast end of Kalabaland Glacier-Sankalp Glacier-Yangchar Glacier group, shares its neighboring space with Rajrambha, Panchachuli and Nandakot that provide the amazing views to the explorers while being on a peak climbing expedition in this beautiful mountain of Uttarakhand. As per the past records, the first climb to this peak was made in the year 1973 by an Indian team led by A.R. Chandekar and Sherpa Ajeeba. Trekking alongside the Ralam river and relishing its amazing views, the team reached the Chaudhara peak. And they set their base camp at Shiva Glacier.
The trekking for Chaudhara peak starts from Munsiyari, which is the nearest place that’s accessible through motorable roads. Whereas, the most easiest and the most popular route to reach to its summit is via the west face. Ralam village lying near to it, provide the awe inspiring views of the Chaudhara peak. The Nanda Devi sanctuary is also a famous tourist attraction that lies close to the peak. It is rich in variety of flora and fauna, thus draws number of tourists every year. Therefore, apart from the it’s amazing natural structure, the peak is a wholesome package that includes a fair chance to witness the local life and also the enriched biodiversity of Nanda Devi sanctuary.
