Tirsuli Peak Uttarakhand
Tirsuli peak situated in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, proudly stands at the northern end of the Johar valley. In the Kumaon Himalayas, the peak with an astonishing altitude of 7,074 m, makes up the northeast wall of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary along with the other peaks of Hardeol, Changabang, Kalanka and Dunagiri. Having a shape of a ‘Trishul’, the peak is often confused with the nearby Trisul peak which lies on the southwest side of the Sanctuary.
Tirsuli peak remained unconquered for decades even when serious attempts to climb the peak had been started since 1939. Finally, the peak was ascended successfully for the first time in the year 1966 by another Indian team led by Chanchal Kumar Mitra and was organised for the second time by Himalayan Association of calcutta. The route they took was via east face of the south-east ridge and then took the south-east ridge to the summit. It is the only possible routes available for mountaineering in the Tirsuli peak of Uttarakhand. Although, as compared to other peaks in the Uttarakhand Himalayas the Tirsuli peak is not quite popular for adventure activities like trekking and peak climbing. But if any explorer willing to take up the road less travelled can definitely choose for the expedition to this beautiful snow-clad peak. The trek for Tirsuli starts from Panchachuli which is accessible through motorable roads from Munsiyari. Munsiyari act as the hub for the trekkers in the Kumaon Himalayas by providing easy connectivity from major cities of Uttarakhand. Thus, in a way lends its hand in popularising Uttarakhand Tourism in all over India and even across the borders of the country.
