Kuchela Dhura Peak Uttarakhand
By being situated in Pithoragarh district, Kumaon Himalaya hence called the parent range of the gigantic Kuchela Dhura Peak. The peak has an elevation of 6,292 m, thus provides the amazing views of the banks of the Lwa Glacier on its left and Shalang Glacier on its right. It is surrounded by Nanda Kot peak, and also offers a 3 km long rutted ridge leading to Nanda Kot’s north face.
Kuchela Dhura peak is one among the rare peaks of the Uttarakhand Himalayas that has gained not much popularity in trekking and peak climbing. But as adventure enthusiast knows no limit can definitely go for a mountaineering expedition to behold the beauty of Uttarakhand in its truest form. Considering the peakery records, the Kuchela Dhura Peak has witnessed many known and unknown failed attempts, one of them being by IMF who, during pre-monsoon season in the year 2012, had sent a team of 8 members via west ridge. Whereas the first successful attempt was also carried out by IMF in the year 2013. It was a core indian team that had ten members in total, hailing from different states of the country. Out of which, four members i.e Dhruv joshi, Wallambok Lyngdoh, Chitramohan & Vijay Rautela successfully scaled the mountain on 6 September 2013 and made the first international and national ascent of the peak.
The growing popularity of Uttarakhand tourism is definitely because of the plethora of adventure activities that are available here like trekking, mountaineering, paragliding etc. But before one approaches the enormous mountains, it is always advisable to take prior knowledge of the weather conditions and the trekking routes.
