Gauri Parbat Peak Uttarakhand

Gauri Parbat, also known as the ‘Horse’ peak is situated in the Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. With an elevation of 6,708 m above the sea level, Gauri Parbat peak lies within the Kamet range of the Garhwal Himalayas. Towering the famous Valley of Flowers, the other peaks that are also included in the Kamet group of mountains beside Gauri Parbat peak are Nilgiri Parbat and Hathi Parbat. And among the three, Hathi Parbat is the tallest of the peaks that has an altitude of 6,727 m.

Due to its amazing elevation of above 20,000 feet, this peak was a popular attraction among the tourists who were interested in trekking and peak climbing in the Uttarakhand. As per the records, the first ascend to this peak was made on 18 August 1939 by Andre Roch, Fritz Steuri and David Zogg with the help of few sherpas. Talking of the adventure activities that now happen in Gauri Parbat is equal to nil. Even mountaineering is not that popular in this part of the Uttarakhand Himalayas.

Though, trek to Gauri Parbat starts from the holy town of Badrinath. It is the nearest place that is accessible through motorable roads from major cities like Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun. Whereas, the closest railway station to Badrinath is situated in Haridwar and the nearest airport is in Dehradun.
