Meru Peak Uttarakhand
Meru peak lies in the Garhwal Himalayas in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. “Meru” is a sanskrit word for spine, that attributes the shape of this mountain. The phenomenal height of Meru peak stands upright between Thalay Sagar and Shivling. Other than the tallest southern elevation of 6,600 m, this enormous mountain has two more peaks i.e central (6,310 m) and northern (6,450 m) that altogether gives it the shape of a shark’s fin. The Shark’s fin route up the central mountain peak is reputed among the mountaineers for being one of the hardest route in the world. Also, this is why the two higher peaks were climbed first before the harder central peak, which was finally climbed successfully by a team consisting of Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin, and Renan Ozturkin in the year 2011. Meru peak was the site of the world's highest BASE Jump from 'Earth', by Glenn Singleman and Heather Swan from a height of 6,604 metres in june 2006, which has been since surpassed.
