Burphu Dhura Peak Uttarakhand
Burphu Dhura peak is a Himalayan Peak of the Kumaon region which is Situated in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. It stands at the end ridge over the Kalabaland glacier in the eastern part of the district, left to the Milam glacier. Even if not the tallest peak, Burphu Dhura Peak has an impressive altitude of 6,334 m. Kalabaland Dhura peak makes an essential part of the Burphu Dhura massif and lies to the west of the Burphu Dhura peak. This giant massif partakes in dividing the Kalabaland and Gori Ganga valleys.
Lying in the Panchachuli region, Burphu Dhura peak is considered as the ideal location for the explorers looking for adventure activities like trekking and mountaineering in the Uttarakhand Himalayas. The peak is surrounded by amazing natural beauty and the enchanting views of the snow covered Kalabaland Dhura peak which never fail to inspire the peak climbers. Also, blessed with some tricky terrains; Burphu Dhura is quite popular among the high-level trekkers too. As per the records, the peak was first climbed from south by an Indian team that included Loveraj Dharmshaktu, Balwant Singh Kapkoti and Ramesh, under the direction of Wing Cdr S S Puri on 27 September 2000. The peak can be approached from two sides; one from the Kalabaland glacier above the icefall and another from Burphu village in the Milam valley.
The trek to Burphu Dhura peak can be started from Munsiyari, which is the nearest place accessible through motorable roads. Hence, it is the place that provided for the starting point for most of the treks into the Kumaon Himalayas.
